Senior Commissioning Consultant – Building Performance

About the Role

Peak Commissioning is currently seeking to hire a Senior Commissioning Consultant to join our fast-growing company. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership within our team in Vancouver. They will be responsible for managing, and delivering simulation assignments, mentoring, and developing commissioning staff, and working with the leadership team to grow our consultancy. The applicant should be self-directed and passionate about commissioning and sustainability. 

The position is a senior role and based in Vancouver, British Columbia.   

Position Description

As a Senior Commissioning Consultant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful implementation and completion of complex engineering projects. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the commissioning process, ensuring that all systems and components of a project are designed, installed, tested, and operated according to the specified requirements. With your expertise and leadership, you will guide project teams, provide technical insights, and drive efficiency and effectiveness in the commissioning process. 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Commissioning Project Management: Lead and manage the commissioning process for multiple projects simultaneously, from pre-design to closeout phases. Collaborate with stakeholders, including clients, contractors, architects, and engineers, to develop commissioning plans and schedules. 
  1. Technical Expertise: Utilize your in-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other relevant systems to assess project design documents and ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and best practices. 
  1. Site Inspections: Conduct thorough on-site inspections to evaluate the installation and functionality of systems. Identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency. 
  1. Test and Verification: Develop and execute comprehensive testing procedures to verify the proper functioning of all project systems and components. Document and analyze test results, and work with the project team to address any deficiencies. 
  1. Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures throughout the commissioning process to maintain high standards and deliver a flawless product to clients. 
  1. Training and Support: Provide training to project stakeholders on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, fostering knowledge transfer and ensuring the smooth handover of the project. 
  1. Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with industry advancements and emerging technologies related to commissioning and building systems. Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovative practices to enhance project outcomes. 
  1. Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks associated with the commissioning process and work proactively to mitigate them, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. 
  1. Client Relationships: Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, addressing their concerns, and ensuring their satisfaction throughout the commissioning process. 
  1. Team Leadership: Mentor and guide junior commissioning consultants, providing them with technical expertise and professional development opportunities. 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Proven experience in commissioning complex engineering projects, with a minimum of 5-8 years in a similar senior role. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems and their integration within commercial, institutional, or industrial facilities. 
  • Certifications in commissioning (e.g., CxA, CCP, CEM) are highly desirable.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Proficiency in using commissioning software and tools to streamline processes and enhance reporting. 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities to troubleshoot complex system issues effectively. 
  • Detail-oriented and committed to delivering high-quality results.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and guide team members effectively.
