About the role:

Edge Consultants is seeking a Senior Building Performance Consultant with specialized expertise in sustainable design, energy efficiency, and building energy simulation to support our growing building performance team. This role is ideal for an experienced energy and sustainability consultant with a strong background in building performance, energy efficiency, and decarbonization projects.

The ideal candidate will have experience in Canada, particularly in healthcare and public sector projects. They will have extensive experience in energy-efficient building design, HVAC and lighting systems, building control strategies, and energy conservation measures. They will be proficient in building energy simulation, greenhouse gas emissions analysis, and local building performance standards. Strong communication skills and a passion for sustainable design are essential.

As a Senior Building Performance Consultant, you will work on projects focused on energy modeling, measurement & verification (M&V), building optimization, carbon reduction strategies, and compliance-related services. You will collaborate with clients to optimize building performance and drive sustainability initiatives while ensuring regulatory compliance and financial feasibility.

This senior-level position is based in Vancouver, BC.

1.1        Technical Leadership & Project Management

  • Lead building performance consulting for new and existing buildings across various sectors, including healthcare, and commercial real estate.
  • Conduct energy audits, energy modeling, and carbon reduction analysis using industry-leading tools.
  • Provide expertise in HVAC system design, building envelope optimization, lighting design, and control sequences to improve building performance.
  • Oversee measurement & verification (M&V) planning, energy conservation measure analysis, and compliance.
  • Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Support funding applications and feasibility studies for energy efficiency projects, including incentives through CleanBC, BC Hydro, FortisBC, FCM Green Municipal Fund, CMHC and other Canadian programs.

1.2        Stakeholder Engagement & Client Advisory

  • Work directly with facilities operations teams, developers, general contractors, architects, and engineers to integrate sustainable design strategies.
  • Advise clients on energy efficiency and carbon reduction strategies.
  • Support development, monitoring and adherence to energy and carbon targets for buildings
  • Support LEED, and Zero Carbon Building certifications, including energy modeling for LEED EA credits.
  • Mentorship & Team Development
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers and energy modelers in building performance analysis and simulation techniques.
  • Develop internal training materials, tools, and resources to improve team knowledge and efficiency.
  • Ensure best practices in quality control and documentation for energy modeling and reporting.

We would love to hear from you if you have: 

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, Energy Management or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration with EGBC, or other Canadian associations, or eligibility for registration.
  • 5+ years of experience in building energy performance consulting, including energy modeling and analysis.
  • Proficiency in IES Virtual Environment or equivalent energy modeling software, including APACHE HVAC for complex system simulation.
  • Strong background in HVAC system design, control strategies, and energy conservation measures.
  • Experience with Title 24, ASHRAE 90.1, NECB, BC Step Code, and the Vancouver Building Bylaw (VBBL).
  • Knowledge of building envelope design, thermal performance, and renewable energy integration.
  • Familiarity with LEED, WELL, Zero Carbon Building, and BOMA BEST certification frameworks.
  • Experience in financial modeling, incentive programs, and government funding applications for energy efficiency projects.
  • Strong report writing, presentation, and client communication skills.
  • Experience preparing energy modeling documentation for LEED EA energy modeling credits.
  • Experience working with healthcare institutions, government projects, or large commercial buildings.
  • Familiarity with Python, Excel-based tools, PowerBI or database management for workflow automation and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of measurement & verification (M&V) methodologies following IPMVP standards.
  • Project management experience

In addition to the above experience, you should have: 

  • An excellent level of both written and spoken English.
  • A personable character with an ability to foster good working relationships with clients.
  • The ability to effectively communicate technical analysis, concepts, and ideas.
  • Strong client-facing and time-management skills.
  • The ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel to create tools, manage workflows, and present data.
  • An ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerBI, and PowerPoint for report writing and presentations.
  • The skills to guide and assist project designers on solutions affecting building energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The ability to work closely with architects and mechanical and electrical engineers to assess the commercial viability of various energy strategies and systems.
  • Skills to evaluate and analyze various building energy-saving measures by performing iterative modeling.
  • Skills in developing training material and engineering tools for staff.
  • An appreciation for the importance of documentation and quality management standards.
  • A desire to improve internal processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive annual salary.
  • Additional annual bonuses, typically in the region of 10% of base salary.
  • Enrollment in health benefits program.
  • 12:30 finish on Fridays.
  • 20 paid vacation days.
  • This position is primarily office-based, located in Vancouver, allowing for optimal team collaboration and a hands-on approach to learning our processes and systems. After an initial period of integration and performance evaluation, typically six months, we offer the flexibility to incorporate some remote work into your schedule. This hybrid approach is designed to balance effective teamwork and in-person interaction with the convenience and flexibility that remote work provides.
