Edge is Hiring a Mechanical Project Manager

About the role:

Edge Consultants is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager to lead the design of high-performance mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in designing low-carbon, high energy efficiency mechanical systems for high-rise buildings. This role offers the opportunity to work with utilities, developers, and building owners to create impactful sustainability solutions. 

Reporting directly to the head of Mechanical Design at Edge, the successful candidate will manage client projects, lead projects, mentor junior staff, and drive innovation in mechanical building design. This role will also involve working closely with a design team on projects, being fully responsible for each project’s design, the staffing of that project. We are looking for a strategic thinker with in-personal skills, a deep understanding of mechanical design, and experience with seeing energy and carbon reductions realized through high-performance building design.

This position is based in Vancouver, BC. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building systems for new construction, retrofits, and tenant improvement projects. 
  • Oversee project execution from concept through construction, including site visits, system reviews, and coordination with contractors to ensure design intent is realized. 
  • Manage all aspects of project delivery, including scheduling, budgeting, risk management, resource planning, and quality control across multiple projects. 
  • Collaborate closely with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems with broader building performance goals. 
  • Provide technical guidance on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, with a focus on energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and constructability. 
  • Support clients in meeting sustainability targets by assessing conservation measures and ensuring alignment with LEED, Zero Carbon Building, and other green certification frameworks. 
  • Contribute to energy transition planning by designing systems compatible with electrification and low-carbon energy strategies, including impact analysis for existing and future systems. 
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and consultants through coaching, design reviews, and performance feedback. 
  • Play an active role in team growth by participating in performance reviews and fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture. 
  • Stay informed on evolving building codes, energy policies, and industry best practices, sharing insights with clients and internal teams. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by refining internal processes, tools, and design standards. 
  • Collaborate with leadership to set and achieve personal and team-based Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) aligned with company priorities. 

We would love to hear from you if you have the following

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the design of building mechanical systems. 
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or eligible for registration with EGBC (or equivalent provincial association). 
  • LEED, WELL, and other sustainability-related accreditations are highly desirable. 
  • Proven experience managing client-facing projects, leading multidisciplinary teams, and delivering high-quality work on time and within budget. 
  • Deep technical expertise in HVAC system design, control strategies, plumbing, fire protection, and building performance optimization. 
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant building codes and standards, including NBC, BCBC, and VBBL. 
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit for mechanical design and documentation. 
  • Experience using energy modelling tools such as IES Virtual Environment to support mechanical design, including detailed load analysis. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting; familiarity with energy and sustainability consulting software is a plus. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of effectively presenting concepts and recommendations to clients. 
  • Ability to collaborate within cross-disciplinary teams and communicate complex ideas clearly to ensure timely, practical, and high-performance solutions. 
  • Experience developing internal tools, templates, or training resources to support team knowledge and consistency. 
  • Strong understanding of documentation practices and quality management systems. 
  • Proactive mindset with a desire to continuously improve internal processes, workflows, and project delivery methods. 
  • Solutions-oriented approach, with a passion for problem-solving and a drive to implement practical, effective solutions in a fast-paced environment. 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive annual salary. 
  • Annual bonuses, typically in the region of 10% of base salary.

  • 12:30 finish on Fridays.
  • 4 weeks paid vacation. 
  • This position is primarily office-based, located in Vancouver, allowing for optimal team collaboration and a hands-on approach to learning our processes and systems. After an initial period of integration and performance evaluation, typically six months, we offer the flexibility to incorporate some remote work into your schedule. This hybrid approach is designed to balance effective teamwork and in-person interaction with the convenience and flexibility that remote work provides.
