About the role:
Edge Consultants is hiring a Sustainability Consultant to join its growing Sustainability team, in support of the firm’s vision of creating a sustainable future for people and the planet.
The individual will work alongside a client-facing team, coordinating tasks to achieve project sustainability goals. The ideal applicant will have the flexibility and capacity to work on a wide variety of projects and demonstrate the capability of collaborating with multi-disciplinary project teams. Applicants should be self-directed and passionate about creating sustainable, healthy low-carbon buildings, with an ability to produce high-quality work products.
This intermediate in-person role can be based out of Vancouver offices.
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Post-secondary education in relevant fields such as environmental science, engineering, or other qualifications with relevant work experience in the construction industry.
- Rating tool accreditations such as LEED Green Associate, LEED Accredited Professional (AP) for building Design + Construction and WELL AP.
- A minimum two years of experience in the construction industry facilitating the achievement of project sustainability goals.
- A minimum of one year of proven experience conducting whole building lifecycle analysis (wbLCA) utilizing OneClickLCA or Athena.
- Holistic understanding of sustainability in the built environment and how it interfaces with policy on the Federal, Provincial and regional levels.
- Proficient in reading architectural drawings and conducting take-off measurements in Revu and AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with REVIT is required.
- Proficiency in preparing sustainability documentation for green building rating systems such as LEED.
- Working knowledge of industry trends with regards to low carbon building materials.
- Experience with sustainable building rating tools such as LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge, Zero Carbon Building (ZCB), REAP, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present concepts and ideas to clients and project team members.
- Capability to interface with corporate real estate companies, general contractors, and consultants with strong client-facing and time management skills.
- Aptitude to guide internal team members on project tasks and deliverables.
- A personable character with the ability to foster good working relationships.
- Ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Confident in the use of MS Office to create tools and resources to manage workflows, data, and information.
- Knowledge of building performance simulation, daylight analysis and climate resiliency assessment is considered an asset.
- Willingness to network at industry events and participate in regional embodied carbon groups.
- Other accreditations such as LEED AP for Homes and ZCB Microcredential is considered an asset.
This is what a typical week will include:
- Work within the sustainability team in consultancy and analysis roles for rating systems such as LEED, WELL, REAP, etc.
- Assess and quantify the embodied carbon of building materials, construction methods, and demonstrate the impact of design choices through wbLCAs.
- Provide guidance to architects, designers, and construction teams on best practices to incorporate sustainability requirements within design and to reduce embodied carbon.
- Develop reports, presentations, illustrations, and other content matter for project team members and clients.
- Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to gather accurate data on material compositions and environmental product declarations (EPDs).
- Research and keep informed about the latest developments in building sustainability, embodied carbon measurement and reporting, data, tools, industry guidelines and reports, and policy development.
- Network and participate in industry events with regional embodied carbon groups such as Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF).
- Conduct climate resiliency assessments for projects.
- Collaborate with project team members to obtain deliverables in a timely manner.
- Develop and execute project workflows, such as:
- Information sharing with team members
- Coordinate stakeholder inputs and analysis processes
- Review of the specification language
- Periodic sustainability check-ins
- Documentation review to achieve project sustainability goals
- Liaise with authorities, clients, other consultants, and contractors to achieve project sustainability goals.
- Contribute to the development of trackers, tools, and workflows to aid workflows and execution from project inception to completion.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Expected annual base salary of $65,000 – $85,000
- Additional annual bonuses, typically in the region of 5-10% of base salary.
- Enrollment in health benefits program.
- 12:30 finish on Fridays.
- 20 paid vacation days.
- This position is primarily office-based, located in Vancouver, allowing for optimal team collaboration and a hands-on approach to learning our processes and systems. After an initial period of integration and performance evaluation, typically six months, we offer the flexibility to incorporate some remote work into your schedule. This hybrid approach is designed to balance effective teamwork and in-person interaction with the convenience and flexibility that remote work provides.
Note: Relocation assistance is not available for this role.
